My passion for children and London, bought me to become a nanny in the capital city. Not feeling overly confident as only had nursery positions previously, i nervously searched for nanny positions in London.
With the aid of Little Ones agency i applied for a role i took interest in and soon after had a reply confirming an interview date.
My main reason for moving to London was to gain my confidence and expand my childcare career. The day of the interview came, the moment i met the mother and the child, my anxiety disappeared as i instantly felt a connection and a warmth.
Yey! I got the job!
To become a live in nanny, for me was the biggest hurdle i have ever faced as have always struggled with confidence and comfort issues and this was definitely way out of my comfort zone! But what better way to face your fears than jump right in and do the job you love in the place you have always wanted to be!
I have always worked with Pre- school aged children,so to work with a 11 month old was somewhat new to me too.
From my first day, i felt strangely comfortable and felt like i belonged as a nanny in this home, i gained experience and more confidence each day, i did things i thought i would never be able to do, simple things such as taking the child to a stay and play session or rhyme time at the library was such a big thing for me as i struggle in social situations, but Sarah (the baby) gave me the confidence, i had to prioritize Sarah’s needs and over come my worries.
In time i met other nannies and even made close friends through this. I loved forming a close bond with both Sarah and her family, Sarah’s parents treat me like part of their family, i even spent last Christmas with them. I stayed with the family for two years, in that time i watched Sarah grow into an intelligent, polite and loving little girl and feel proud to have been apart of her life.
Belle was at the age to go to nursery full time and i now have the confidence to face new ventures, i currently work for a family center dealing with children and families from under privileged backgrounds, Nannying gave me the confidence to follow my career and pursue my dreams no matter how difficult you think it will be. I am presently doing something i never thought i could do socially.
I am still in contact with the family and regularly get a phone call from Sarah asking her to pick her up and take her to the park, something i am always happy to do!
