Afterschool nannies are in high demand throughout London and Greater London. This is due to the flexibility they offer, providing the perfect solution if you’re working and need a few extra hours covered, but do not require a full-time nanny. Providing peace of mind and security, our afterschool nannies are energetic, positive, and able to assist with a wide range of activities with your children.
Little Ones have built their reputation as the UK’s leading nanny and domestic staff agency through years of experience and hard work.
An after-school nanny can be beneficial for you and your children in numerous ways but finding the right candidate may be a bit of work. Many families are also searching for this type of childcare and it will be practical to start your quest with Little Ones UK today.
Our nannies hold the highest level of education, and have years of childcare experience. We have nannies that can take care of children of any age group, from young babies to children attending school. Our trustworthy and reliable after-school nannies make the perfect addition to any family who are looking for 24/7 help. An After-school nanny will become an integral part of your family and children’s lives, and Little Ones can help you find the perfect person to fulfil this role.
An Afterschool nanny typically cares for children aged five years and over, although they may be experienced caring for children of any age.
Afterschool nannies typically work between 3-6 hours per day. For this reason, the hourly rate is often higher for an Afterschool nanny as morning positions are rare.
Afterschool nannies typically live out, i.e. not with your family. They often study part-time or are on student visas. We aim to introduce afterschool nannies who live within a 40-minute commute to your family’s home.
What are the duties of an After-school Nanny?
Duties are more limited as an afterschool nanny has fewer hours than a full time nanny, however responsibilities may include:
Picking the children from nursery or school
Preparation of meals
Homework assistance
Driving the children
Educational activities such as teaching a second language
Arranging play-dates and social schedules
Planning children’s extracurricular activities
Keeping them engaged whilst the parents are still not around
Getting them washed and ready for bed
Helping during half-term and school holiday.
What do you pay for hiring an After-school Nanny?
In London, an after-school nanny with more than three years of professional experience earns between £12 to £15 net per week. However, this is dependent on family requirements and the nanny’s experience.
After-school nannies can travel with your family, work full-time during half-term and school holiday, and offer 24-hour cover while parents are away. In such instances a set salary will be arranged.
How can Little Ones help you to find the perfect After-school Nanny?
The process of finding a nanny that is suitable to your family’s needs and preferences is not only difficult but will also add stress and worry if you were to do this on your own. While directly recruiting candidates gives you the flexibility and control, it can be a daunting task as sifting through the candidate applications will take too much of your time and most of these applicants do not even have the necessary qualifications and experiences that you are looking for. Whereas, if you use a childcare agency, you will have the reassurance that the nannies that will be presented to you have undergone a strict and very thorough screening and vetting process, something that an online job site will not be able to offer you.
Little Ones childcare agency receives thousands of applications a month, from these we only select the very best and schedule them to a face-to-face interview. These interviews include an in-depth discussion of the candidate’s personal experience and work history. Our expert consultants will also take verbal references from the candidate’s previous clients as well as identity and work visa checks following a rigorous process. We also require all our after-school nanny and childcare candidates to undertake a Paediatric First Aid qualification. We offer this course at a very affordable price to make sure that the nannies from Little Ones agency are able to fund a course. Furthermore, all Little Ones Live in Nannies will have DBS check or police check, as Paediatric First Aid certificate.

Our Ethos is Safety, Care, Confidentiality first. Every candidate will be a seamless and positive addition to the family home. We are experts, we research, we learn, we grow. Whatever your needs, we aim to meet every family's requirements every time. That is why our clients trust us.

With the announcement of school closures, parents everywhere are wondering what coronavirus childcare is going to be available during this time. Many families, when alternative childcare is required, call on grandparents to step in as a helping hand. However, during the Coronavirus crisis, grandparents are at risk of severe complications which is why alternative Coronavirus childcare during this time is essential. However, with the current climate, you might be feeling tentative about bringing a Nanny into your home. It is important to remember that everyone needs to be vigilant with their health and hygiene. All childcare candidates that are placed with Little Ones are required to have a valid paediatric first aid certificate. All childcare candidates that completed their paediatric first aid certificate with Little Ones will have completed a section on the importance of health and hygiene and how to encourage children to be thorough with their own health and hygiene. Ensuring everyone in your home is as thorough as they possibly can with their hygiene, especially washing their hands is currently the best way to protect your family. If you are a Nanny working within a family home, try and stay within the home as much as possible and only go out if it is essential.
If you do not currently have a Nanny for your family and you are wondering what options you have, we believe that the best childcare option for you would be either a temporary nanny or a nanny share. A temporary or emergency nanny will be able to step in and care for your children if you are unable to work from home or you require someone to look after your children while you focus on your work at home.
Now is a great time to look at different arts and crafts ideas you can try with the children in your care. Social media offers a wide variety of quick and easy projects you and the children in your care could try during this time. Arts and crafts supplies can be delivered to the home to avoid having to go out to craft shops.
Alternatively, you could try puzzles with a high number of puzzle pieces, board games or card games to keep the children entertained for hours at a time and not resort to unnecessary tablet time. You can even take the time to teach the children magic tricks using only a few items.
How do I know if I need to self-isolate with coronavirus childcare?
As it stands, the Government only recommends self-isolating if you feel as though you are showing symptoms of Covid-19. However, it is important to stay at home as much as you can during this time to help stem the spreading of the virus. Everyone with flu-like symptoms - defined as a fever of above 37.8C or a persistent cough - is being asked to stay at home for at least seven days.
Also, anyone who has travelled to an affected area, or who has been in close contact with an infected person, have already been asked to self-isolate for 14 days even if they do not have any symptoms to avoid continuing the spread of the virus. Close contact is being defined as spending 15 minutes within 2m or 6 feet of someone with the virus and a significant risk.
What is considered self-isolation? Self-isolation means cutting yourself off from the rest of the world. You need to stay at home, not go to work, school or other public places, and avoid public transport or taxis, says Public Health England.
If you live with someone it is advised to limit contact with others as much as possible. If you share a kitchen, try to use it when others are not, clean surfaces as you cook and take meals back to your room. You shouldn't share towels, toiletries or other household items with someone in isolation and they should have a separate bathroom. If that is not possible, the isolated person should use the bathroom last, cleaning it thoroughly afterwards if they are able.
Any rubbish that the isolated person has been in contact with should be double-bagged and kept. If the person tests positive, you will be told what to do with their waste.
Workers will get statutory sick pay from the first day off work, not the fourth, to help contain coronavirus, the prime minister has said. Many casual or agency workers may also be entitled to sick pay but self-employed people are not. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, speak to your employer. If you need to care for a relative or your child's school is closed and you need to look after them at short notice, your employer must give you time off, but it may be unpaid.
It is also important to remember that while people of all ages can test positive for coronavirus, older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, lung disease) are more likely to become severely ill with the virus and are most at risk. Children have been reported to show a remarkable resistance to the virus, so while they are not at risk, they are could be carriers of the disease and pass it along to those who are more at risk, such as grandparents. The symptoms of Covid-19 are similar to those of the common cold and the flu.
What is coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a common type of virus. They typically cause fever and a cough, which may progress to more severe pneumonia, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties in some people. Covid-19 is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China. The current evidence is that most cases appear to be relatively mild and are similar to that of a cold or flu. Most of those who have died in Wuhan appear to have had pre-existing health conditions that have caused complications. Little is known about this new strain of the virus due to it being so new so it is not clear how it is spread, however, similar viruses tend to be spread by coughs and sneezes – so the way the infection gains entry to the body is the same as the way it exits and spreads to others.
It is also possible that the virus may be spread by touching a surface or object that has been coughed or sneezed on by someone with the virus – such as by touching a doorknob or shaking hands with someone and then touching your face. There is currently no specific cure for the new coronavirus so treatment is aimed at relieving the symptoms.
Although the Department for Health has described the virus as a "serious and imminent threat" and raised the public risk level from "low" to "moderate", the risk to individuals remains low.
It is also important to remember that while people of all ages can test positive for coronavirus, older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, lung disease) are more likely to become severely ill with the virus and are most at risk. While children are not considered to be at risk of severe symptoms, they can be carriers of the disease and pass it along to those who are more at risk, such as grandparents which is why it is essential to discuss the importance of prevention with them. The symptoms of Covid-19 are similar to those of the common cold and the flu. The three main symptoms of coronavirus are a cough, a high temperature and shortness of breath.
With coronavirus childcare, here are some everyday actions you can take to avoid the contraction and spread of coronavirus
Good personal hygiene is the most effective way to limit the contraction and spread of Coronavirus. Below are a few everyday precautions you and your children can adopt to best avoid the contraction and spread of the disease.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, before eating or having been in a public place. If you are speaking with children about the importance of washing their hands for the correct amount of time, it is suggested that by singing ‘happy birthday’ twice is a great way to ensure they are washing for the full 20 seconds.
If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public areas this can include elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, ticket machines. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.
Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.
Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes.
Clean and disinfect your home to remove bacteria, introduce a routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks & cell phones. Ideally at least once a day.
Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. Your risk of exposure to respiratory viruses like Coronavirus may increase in crowded, compact settings with little air circulation especially if there are people in the crowd who are sick.
Avoid all non-essential travel.
Stay home as much as possible, consider ways of getting food brought to your house through family, friends or delivery services.
If you think you might have Coronavirus or you have been in close contact with someone who has it, stay at home and avoid close contact with other people, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital at the risk of spreading the virus and use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next. The website is regularly updated and will be able to provide you with real-time information without overloading the system. The 111 coronavirus service will tell you if you need to continue to stay at home or if you need medical help. It is important that you and your family take all the necessary precautions you can to ensure the safety of your loved ones and well as preventing the spread of Coronavirus.

Live-in nannies are placed throughout the world by Little Ones in London.
We are proud to offer a range of excellent permanent and temporary live-in nanny services throughout London, and the rest of the world.
Little Ones have built their reputation as the UK’s leading nanny and domestic staff agency through years of experience and hard work.
We understand that finding a nanny to live in your home may seem like a daunting task, and that’s where our years of experience and knowledge of the industry come into their own. Finding the perfect live-in nanny to suit our client’s personalities and requirements is simple for us.
Creating strong relationships with both out clients and candidates is key.
Our nannies hold the highest level of education, and have years of childcare experience. We have nannies that can take care of children of any age group, from young babies to children attending school. Our trustworthy and reliable live-in nannies make the perfect addition to any family who are looking for 24/7 help. A live-in nanny will become an integral part of your family and children’s lives, and Little Ones can help you find the perfect person to fulfil this role.
A live-in nanny is a nanny who takes residence in your home, and can provide, if needed, a 24-hour service.
A live-in nanny is provided their own bedroom and privacy when “off-duty” and some families will offer separate accommodation. Many families also offer a separate bathroom and, where possible, living space in order to attract a higher calibre of live-in nanny.
Live-in nannies often work between 10 and 12 hours per day, 5 days per week. Many families also require two nights of babysitting included in the salary. A live-in nanny may work a 24-hour shift or 5-6 day shifts for a higher salary.
Little Ones will only put forward live-in nannies who have experience with children of your family’s age group.
What to expect from your Live in Nanny
Duties include, but are not limited to:
educational activities such as teaching a second language
arranging play-dates and social schedules
ensuring children’s bedrooms are clean and tidy
homework assistance
washing and ironing the children’s clothes
preparation of meals for the children
driving the children
planning children’s extracurricular activities
keeping the parents informed of developmental progress
What do you pay a live in nanny?
In London, a live-in nanny with more than three years of professional experience earns between £300 and £450 net per week. However, this is dependent on family requirements and the nanny’s experience. 24-hour live-in nannies usually receive salaries of over £500 net per week.
Live-in nannies working abroad command higher salaries of £550 to £950 net per week - again, this depends on the requirements of your family.
Live-in nannies can travel with your family and offer 24-hour cover while parents are away. In such instances a set salary will be arranged.
Does a live in nanny pay rent?
A Live-in Nanny does not pay rent, and the family will need to arrange private accommodation for her. The main reason for this is that the wage of a live-in nanny in comparison with the wage of a live-out nanny is more affordable. Besides this, many families choose to have a live in nanny for the flexibility they gain; the parents don’t need to worry if the nanny might arrive late, since she won’t need to commute. Another reason is that the family is looking to the nanny to become part of the family, being able to create a deeper relationship between the nanny, the children and the parents. Please take into consideration that a Live-in nanny, apart from not paying rent, does not pay for food and bills.
How can Little Ones help you recruit your Live in Nanny?
There are thousands of candidates interested in the live-in nanny position who will thrive to get on the frontline. Hence, Little Ones Nanny Agency has been receiving over 8000 nanny and domestic staff candidate applications every month where the consultants handpick few of the very best which is not more than 900 candidates each month. Our reliable consultants will be interviewing them face to face to establish their skills, experience and qualifications. This is to make sure that only the most suitable nannies are introduced to your family. Picking the right agency will prevent you from taking too much time meeting candidates that might not even be interested in your offer. Unlike using an alternative source like social media to advertise and recruit nannies, our nanny agency can make certain that the family will be in safe hands.
The hiring process will begin when our consultants conduct a one-on-one interview with the applicants that will pass their initial requirements. This includes one year of educational background ideally, and two years of professional experience as a live in nanny. The face-to-face interview, on the other hand, is intended to identify the candidate and cover their work experiences, personal history, their perspective of the role and how they became interested in childcare, among other important things. Furthermore, all Little Ones Live in Nannies will have DBS check or police check, as Paediatric First Aid certificate.
With the Little One’s commitment, the team pride themselves on being able to delicately align premium, luxury services to those who put their confidence in them. Little Ones Nanny Agency is based in London with offices in Fitzrovia and Kings Cross. We are pleased to offer maternity nurse services in the UK, as well as Worldwide – and can provide these services at very short notice, for any period of time.
Little Ones work with professional maternity nurse candidates and night nannies who have several years of experience in baby care, ensuring your child is in the safest and most knowledgeable hands at such a special time. Our maternity nurses truly help to make your experience even more positive.
What to expect from your Maternity or Night Nurse?
A Maternity nurse is a baby care specialist - typically joining your household right after the birth of your baby, although sometimes this service can be used several weeks/months into your baby’s development in order to assist with ongoing or new issues
Maternity nurses assist the parent/s in putting the baby into a sleep and feed routine. Where needed, they will assist in breastfeeding, bottle feeding or transition between, expressing and later on weaning. They often offer invaluable advice to new parents in how to best care for your new baby.
Whilst maternity nurses are not usually medically trained, they often come with a wealth of experience and are able to spot early signs of and advise on various medical issues often seen in baby’s early development. They will also often have many contacts for relevant professionals who may be able to assist if required.
A maternity or night nurse can sleep in your baby’s room or separately, depending on your preference
Maternity nurses specialise in baby care (typically between 0-6 months of age) but can sometimes assist with older siblings as well, especially to help introduce new baby into the family dynamics and help with sibling rivalry
Duties may include (but are not limited to):
Bottle/equipment sterilization
Bathing your baby
Sleep & feed routine
Preparation of the nursery ahead of birth
Washing your baby’s clothes
Providing advice and assistance on daily basis
Strict vetting procedures for all Maternity and Night Nurses

All candidates offered for Maternity Nurse roles must hold current Paediatric First Aid training as well as valid Enhanced DBS (police) check. We interview all of our maternity nurses and verify their references prior to recommending them to you.
Maternity and Night Nurse Rates Maternity nurses usually work either on full time live in basis (typically working on 24 hrs a day on call basis, 4-6 days per week), or on live out basis (either daytime or night time shifts).
Typical Maternity nurse or night nurse contract is temporary, usually lasting between 1 week and 6 months.
Maternity Nurses work on self-employed basis, and charge a rate between £220 per day (junior candidates) up to £400 per day (top quality experienced candidates) when working on 24hr a day live in basis.

Reference checked.
May be subject to a DBS or Police check.
Are required to undertake FAIB approved Paediatric First Aid Certification every 3 years. Little Ones are unique in offering such training onsite daily including weekends.
Candidate interviews at your convenience, within 24 hours of your first call
Please note – there may be circumstances where a candidate is still undergoing one or more of the above vetting processes, or it is not possible for them to obtain one or more of the requested documents. Where this is the case, this will be made clear on the candidates profile at the point of introduction.
Nanny-Housekeeper Duties
The duties of a nanny-housekeeper depend on the individual needs of our clients. Allocation of time between domestic housekeeping duties and childcare is entirely up to you. Nanny-housekeepers may have cooking/PA and other duties specified by the family. PA duties could include household accounts, dealing with bills, tradesmen, deliveries and shopping.
Our nanny-housekeepers are placed in sole care positions for working parents – or alongside parents, depending on your requirements. Nanny-housekeepers may live with a family or live out and work part time, or five to six days per week, for 10 to 12 hours per day.
A nanny housekeeper who works alongside a parent may focus on housekeeping and have fewer duties with your children. Their nanny duties may be only required while the parent is otherwise occupied. A nanny-housekeeper who is put into a sole responsibility role will spend more time with your children, and household tasks will be completed when the children are at school or organised around the children’s schedule.
Nanny-housekeepers’ duties may include cooking, laundry, ironing, cleaning, tidying, bathrooms, vacuuming, organising cupboards and general household organisation. They are your employee, you dictate your needs when speaking with your consultant and we will find the nanny-housekeeper candidate that will fit your needs.
Nanny housekeeper salaries
Salaries in London for live-in nanny housekeepers range from £320 to £600 net per week. Overseas expectations are £600 to £1500 net per week.
Daily (live-out) nanny housekeepers earn £9.50 to £15 net per hour and may work between 4 to 12 hours per day.
Some nanny-housekeepers may drive and be responsible for the school run. For these candidates a higher salary may be expected.

For over a century, Norland Nannies have been the creme de la creme of child carers. You will find royalty and those of high social status employing Norland Nannies for their exemplary skills and high standard care, including Mick Jagger, Princess Anne and more recently the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Norland Nannies have a flexible and personalised approach and are able to work with you to bring up your children how you want to. And with Little Ones at your side, we will be able to source Norland-trained candidates who will complement your every need, whatever they may be.
What is a Norland Nanny?
Norland Nannies are famous for their professionalism and exceptional training in early years higher education, and they are considered the top most choice when it comes to childcare, the Mary Poppins of the modern times. These exemplary nannies have been providing a top of the line service not just across the United Kingdom but overseas as well.
Norlanders, as the alumni of the college are often called, successfully complete their training at the most prestigious nanny training school in the world -- Norland College in the beautiful city of Bath in England. The renowned school was founded by Teacher Emily Ward in 1892. At that time, childcare was often done by housemaids who were also in charge of the household chores so they are focused on a lot of tasks around the house, making the childcare duties more like keeping an eye on the children instead of a child-focused job. For this reason, Norland College decided to introduce a more structured and child-centred system where nannies could look after a child effectively whilst also ensuring that their learning and development are not compromised. In the year 2019, they are termed as the best Independent Higher Education provider in the United Kingdom at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, among other awards.
Why choose a Norland Nanny?
If even the royal family decides to hire a Norland Nanny, it must mean there really is something special about them, right? Why is it that clients are willing to pay the cost for hiring a Norland Nanny? What makes them stand out from other childcare options?
Working for some of the most influential families and powerful people in the world means that Norland Nannies have to have the necessary knowledge to tackle just about anything that is thrown at them. To meet these needs, Norland College provides their students with an intensive and meticulous program that is more than an average childcare qualification course would cover.
Norlanders attend a three-year bachelor's degree in Early Years Development and Learning and the three-year course covers everything from child psychology and health, to philosophies of childhood education. They study comprehensive child development techniques and training to keep the children entertained. They do their duties whilst following the college’s motto ‘Love never faileth’ at all times.
After undergoing the three-year training at school and graduating Norland College, all Norland Nannies must also take a 12-month long assignment under the supervision of the school before moving further into the workforce.
Armed with their training in early years education and development as well as their skills, Norland Nannies are also able to teach children multiple languages, eloquence, manners and extra skills such as sailing and skiing. And given the social status of their clients they work for, Norland Nannies are taught taekwondo in case the need to defend their charges arises or to control a skidding car and learn to drive under treacherous conditions in case they need to flee from paparazzi.
Trust is vital in this setting which is why discretion is also taken very seriously. All in all, Norland Nannies are trained to go above and beyond with utmost dedication and class.
How can we help to recruit Norland Nannies?
Little Ones had been helping families find their perfect nannies for over 15 years. Armed with skills and the vast experience that we have in the industry, we have honed down our vetting and recruitment process to a fine art. And as a premium luxury agency, we are able to provide a wide range of qualified candidates to sort out your childcare options, whatever your needs may be.
There are only a limited number of Norland College graduates per year, thus resulting in a greater demand for Norland Nannies. Here at Little Ones, we can source either newly qualified or experienced Norland Nannies for our clients, as we have an extensive list of candidates in our books.
We know that no two families are the same and we understand that our clients want to hire nannies that are tailored to their needs, which is why Little Ones work closely with our clients and candidates to know which of them perfectly matches with each other.
Our Little Ones consultants are specialists in the recruitment industry and they are able to expertly vet the Norland-trained nanny candidates to ensure only the best ones are put forth for an interview with our clients. The vetting process includes a thorough interview with the candidate, cross checking their credentials, education, training and employment history. You can rest assured that the nanny candidates you interview have completed their training at Norland, have an up-to-date First Aid qualification and DBS check. Our consultants are always available to assist at any point during your search, providing top of the line service to each of our clients.
What are the market rates for Norland Nannies?
Studying at Norland College isn’t cheap and due to the length and cost for training as a Norland Nanny, generally the salaries are higher to reflect the level of qualification that they have and the skills that they could offer. The cost varies but is considerably higher than the regular nanny costs.
All qualified Norland Nannies have a minimum experience of one year working with children. Their salary depends upon their experience, their skills, work history, and the number of hours they are required to work. It will also affect their salary if there will be international travels or if they will be based overseas.
The market rate for a Norland Nanny with limited qualifications who works for about 50 hours per week could start at around £30,000 to £35,000 gross per year and the more experienced Norland Nannies who had been in their service for more than a decade may request a salary up to £100,000 per year. Their salary could also be influenced whether you will employ a Norland Nanny in a part time or full time position, or on a live in or live out basis.
What are the duties and responsibilities of a Norland Nanny?
As they go on to work for some of the most influential families in the world, Norland Nannies are equipped to meet the needs of their clients -- from administering first aid to preparing for the holidays. And some of the recent additions to the Norland College curriculum include security and anti-terrorism training, taekwondo and skid-driving to avoid paparazzi.
Every household is different and duties of a Norland Nanny may vary, depending on the needs of the family they are working for. But typical duties of a Norland Nanny include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring the children are well taken care of
Taking children to playgroup/nursery/school
Teaching the children good manners and eloquence
Teaching the children multiple languages
Preparing the children for events and engagements
Explaining to the children what is likely to happen at events and what they will see
Taking children on outing appropriate to their age and stage of development
Preparing for special occasion such as birthday parties
Implementing activities for the development of the children
Providing well balanced and nutritious meals appropriate to the needs of the children
Cleaning and tidying the nursery, bedroom, playroom and other areas
Administering first aid and medicine for scrapes
Maintaining household equipment relating to the care of the children
Travelling with the children and preparing for holidays, weekend visits, etc.
Communicating with parents in relation to the care for their children
Throughout their service, the Norland Nannies are expected to act in accordance with the Norland Code of Professional Responsibilities to justify trust and confidence.

What ages of children do they have experience caring for as well as teaching to?
What subjects do they have experience teaching?
What school curriculum do they have experience following and teaching?
Do they have experience teaching children from public schools or private schools? If they have experience with both, what differences do they notice between the two?

There may be a number of reasons why you've decided to hire a weekend nanny. Perhaps you need to work during this time, or maybe you need some child-free time to spend with your partner. Whatever your reasons for choosing a nanny at the weekend, there are several things you should look for to obtain the best fit for your child.
Qualifications and experience are key considerations, and if you look for a nanny using a reputable agency such as Little Ones, they should be able to verify these aspects through references and other documentation. However, choosing the right nanny also involves finding a good personality fit to suit your child.
It goes without saying that a nanny should be friendly, warm, caring and kind, but see how a prospective nanny interacts with your child and assess how well they get on together. Although this may be more difficult to determine if your child is a baby, you can still pick up clues as to nanny suitability according to how well he or she reacts to specific situations when they have contact with your little one.
Commitment
A nanny should be dedicated to the role, but when you are choosing one for weekend work, you want to be sure they are happy to forego Saturday nights out with friends or lazy Sundays lounging in bed. Be sure to quiz any prospective nanny as to how they feel about giving up their weekend to look after your child, and if you sense any hesitation, alarm bells should be ringing.
Also, take hints from the kind of questions a would-be nanny might ask, such as if they query about finishing early so they can go out at the weekend. This casts some doubt as to how committed they are to giving up their weekends. A good weekend nanny will be happy to fit in duties around your needs, whether it is Saturday or Sunday.
Punctual and reliable
When you meet a potential nanny for the first time, assess whether they turned up on time for the meeting, as this is a good indicator to demonstrate punctuality and reliability. If your weekends are precious and you need to pack in as much as possible with the help of a nanny, having someone you can rely on to turn up to work at the right time will be crucial.
Creative and imaginative
A nanny who looks after children at the weekends may have a different brief compared with those that care for them during the week. Weekends are often about relaxing and having fun, so consider looking for a nanny who will be able to keep your child entertained using creative or imaginative approaches, rather than just sticking them in front of the TV. Ask a potential nanny what sort of activities they would have in mind to keep your little one amused at the weekend.
Raising children isn't a piece of cake and it takes a loving parent — one with skills and dedication — to teach, understand and guide your little ones as they grow older. Parents are naturally busy people due to the numbers of responsibilities they have in a day including putting food on their table. But they still find time to show physical affection and give the educational needs of their children. So they are taking care of pretty much everything around the house. Now, these parents may look strong and tough but they sure need a hand especially today, a hand to help them do half of their job efficiently and passionately.
This is a call for a Rota Nanny, a full time live in childcarer required to work 24/7 when on duty. A Rota Nanny follows a “rotation” system with at least one other rota nanny as they take turns every other week. So normally, a Rota Nanny will ideally have two weeks on and two weeks off.
Parents that need Rota Nannies are the ones who desire continuous caring for their children. This type of childcare is one of the most sought-after help by high profile or VIP families who have demanding jobs or those who are always on-call. So Rota Nannies are really special as they are not only there to work but to gain trust and respect of the family.
Why Choose Rota Nanny?
Childcarers who choose the Rota Nanny position are often comfortable with the arrangement. Even when they have a day-and-night schedule, the idea of two-weeks off work seems to be more pleasing. These nannies tend to have more time for themselves or time for their family or friends. They could travel, learn new things, or rest the entire break. The working schedule advantage makes the candidates compete for the position, hence, you’ll never run out of enthusiastic applicants for the job. Whilst on a break, the family could still call these nannies for emergency duty which would be beneficial for both parties.
What are a Rota Nanny’s Duties?
Full nursery duties like preparing milk, cleaning and sterilizing bottles, changing nappies, assisting with bath time and bedtime
Light chores related to the childlike cleaning and washing up after every meal and doing the child’s laundry
Preparing healthy food and supervising mealtime
Teaching with potty or toilet training and teaching general life skills like basic hygiene and manners
Arranging outdoor play and outings
Developing the child’s physical, social and mental skills by organising fun and educational activities
Basically meeting every child’s needs within your shift, showing love and affection for the child and making him/her feel comfortable and secured.
Rota Nanny’s job is similar to that of a typical full-time live-in nanny. However, when it comes to schedule and compensation, rota nanny position has far more advantage. We already tackled the rota nanny’s two-weeks on two-weeks off set up.
Regarding the compensation, this childcare job receives more salary and benefit than a usual full-time live-in nanny job. Essentially, the salary and other benefits that the Rota Nanny will get depends on the client or the family that the childcarer will be working for. According to Little Ones UK, the average salary that a Rota Nanny gets is around £3000 to £6000 plus the opportunity to take international trips with the family, of course, while on duty. Often, clients who employ Rota Nannies are well-off and high-profiled families so the candidates might be required to have more specific skills and further qualifications. They also tend to experience more travelling and the probability of working in a fully staffed household.
What are the Benefits of Having a Rota Nanny?
24/7 babysitting or childcare
The family’s everyday life is incredibly busy — from the morning routine to before bedtime chores, parents couldn’t have enough hours in a day. Aside from the daily dishwashing, laundry, meal preparation and childminding, parents will need a rota nanny to make sure that their children are not being left out, and that the children will feel that they are being well taken care of. Rota Nanny will assure the little ones that they have someone to lean on, someone to turn to and someone to accompany them especially whilst their parents are swamped.
The 24/7 childcare service that a rota nanny could provide will also give extra time for the parents to enjoy a quiet moment alone to relax and recharge from all the stress and problems they are facing constantly.
Assurance
Parents may be handling different issues and they are also vulnerable to stress and anxiety. This could come from any factor like work, bills, childminding, school or nursery matters, physical and mental safety of the children and other minor issues. When handling a particular situation, the parents do all their best to tell their children these serious and complicated adult matters in a way that their children would understand. They need to assure them that everything is gonna be alright.
On the other hand, Rota Nannies are trained individuals that could help the children remain calm and composed whilst under pressure. These nannies will be the neutral person who could change the atmosphere when the household is filled with emotional tension. Above all, they would help the children feel soothed during discomfort.
Tutorial
While schools teach books and other educational stuff, Rota Nannies are like on-the-spot tutors who could help the children engaged in activities for further physical and mental skills development. Additionally, they would be happy to assist the children with their lessons in more fun and creative ways.
Fun
Since Rota Nannies focus their time and energy on the children, they spend more time entertaining them, allowing them to laugh and experience their childhood. Experienced rota nannies form clever ideas that would capture the interest of the children, cultivating their skills and enriching their imagination.
Special Moment
While the children are growing, it will most likely be that they will establish a beautiful bond with their nanny. The Rota Nanny is there to continuously look after the children and provide a loving environment for them so they would possibly become these children’s second parents. Without realizing it, their wonderful time together will remain in the children’s memories forever. That's why more often than not, nannies become special people in these little one’s development.
What Do You Need to Remember When Hiring a Rota Nanny?
If you want the best Rota Nannies, it’s important to have a checklist of your preferences. Do your research and consider the skills of your candidates. Check if your Rota Nanny knows and understands the language you speak so you could both be comfortable with one another. Some families prefer a candidate who speaks English fluently but they will highly consider if the nanny knows another language such as French, Spanish, German, Mandarin or Tagalog so they could help the children learn new languages as well.
You also need to determine how you will conduct the interview. Come up with the important questions and make time to carry a face-to-face interview with the candidates. It’s always better to see them in person rather than just read their profile in paper. It is also important to include the children in the interview and let them meet the nanny, watch how they will react upon seeing them and how they are together a few moments after they met. The body language of the children must be observed as they most certainly couldn’t express themselves yet.
And more specifically, most people recommend to consult with the experts and see about using a reliable agency like Little Ones UK to help you with all the process of hiring the best rota nanny possible.
